We run manual backups as part of our maintenance routine on our servers once a week. We came in this morning and the backups failed with this.

Taken from the backup logs.

Code:
ll Backup 0 2009/10/28 07:32:01 FAIL pccard:/full_S8710A_073201_20091028.tar.gz

When I run the backup this is what I get when it fails.

Code:
  Backup History Results

The final status for your backup job is shown below.

THEPID is: 28661
backup: 6: none: unable to find compact flash reader - after fix_scsi execution; Ensure a valid memory card is in pccard reader
backup: 6: copying of backup image to pccard failed -- Backup terminated for full
Performing ERROR RECOVERY, please wait.....
..... ERROR RECOVERY COMPLETE .....

Looking at the backup log the nightly maintenance ran at 11:00 last night and did the backups without any problems. I have reseated the compact flash card and get the same results.

Anyone have any suggestions about how to attack this??

Thanks Mikeydidit

3.1.4 Brett. I unplugged the storage drive and plugged it back in. This made a red light come on under "access". This goes off after the card is taken out. I tried to do a backup again and it came up with an error "uncorrectable error". I formatted card and then tried to backup to it again. It passed this time.

To see if I really cleared the problem I inserted a spare card in the reader. It came back with "uncorrectable error". So i put the original card that was in the A reader back in and ran backups to it. They passed..

Not sure what to do from here Brett.

Did you format the spare card?
There were bugs on this in early cm3.1 and patched on 628
642.1 should not require these patches.

hey mikey just out of curiosity, why aren't you doing automatic backups?

we just upgraded our s8700s to 8730s and have the CF readers, with nightly automated backups.

we rotate cf cards every monday morning, and send them to off site storage .We did find we have to format the NEW cards first.

Brett

I didn't see anything (bugs) in the 3.1.4 642.1 load I am running on the Avaya site. I had a problem in the 3.1 load and had to get someone we both know to help load up the patch.

I am running automatic backups nightly to the Pc card and the one for last night passed. I also had ftp backups running at one time but the POS they had for a server was down at least every other week. I was getting calls at 6:00 (scheduled maintenance testing) three times a week because the ftp backups were failing. I got really tired of that if you can imagine.. So i changed the backups away from the FTP server.

The backups we manually run once a week are just for a spare copy of our translations we keep in a fireproof safe.

After trying a few things yesterday the backups (automatic during nightly maintenance routine) passed. I also ran manual backups to this pc card reader and they also passed.

I still have a red light on the card reader under "access" but everything is working fine today. I had plans to reboot the server if they had failed last night. I guess I can put that off at least for a while now.

Thanks
