Guys, I need help on analyzing this re-occuring problem with an S8300. It always has this "platform alarm" and always resets due to a "software request":

CM Restart Logs:
Output limited to 200 lines.

20060714:101100000:15:cmrestart:MED:Software Request 1 (WARM) no
20060714:101100000:16:cmrestart:MED:Software Request 2 (COLD_2) yes

Output 2 lines.

Looks to me like this is an LSP. The reset is cause by performing a "save translations" on the primary S8300 (ICC). The LSP (ECC) then does a reset after the save.
If this is your LSP this is normal behavior.
Chris

Thanks for the reply Chris, unfortunately there are no LSP's involved here that's why I'm having a hard time figuring this out. It only has a master stack (S8300/G700) with 2 other media gateways.

Bump, anyone? It just re-occurred recently.

have you checked your ports on the s8300..make sure it matches what you data switch port settings are.

Ok, I'll try and look into that.

Here's what I've found in the gateway settings:

P330-1(configure)# sh port
Port Name Status Vlan Level Neg Dup. Spd. Type
------ --------------- --------- ---- ------ ------- ---- ---- -----------------
1/1 NO NAME connected 1 0 enable half 100M 10/100Base-Tx
1/2 NO NAME no link 1 0 enable full 100M 10/100Base-Tx
2/1 NO NAME no link 1 0 enable full 100M 10/100Base-Tx
2/2 NO NAME no link 1 0 enable full 100M 10/100Base-Tx

I tried setting port 1/1 to full duplex, however it always comes up with an "Operation failed!" error message. For now I couldn't afford to do destructive changes since the media server is currently being used.

why don't you set the second port up and try it with that. If that works, just switch the cable and the system should stay up if you do it quickly

n25,

it said "operation failed" because you have tried to set a speed/duplex on a port that is configured for auto-negotiation. you need to turn negotiation off first with 'set port negotiation 1/1 off' command and then set speed/duplex. there may be service disruption when you do it, so better do it off hours.

dwalin is right-you definitely need to have both sides
"locked down" at 100 full.
Turning off auto negotiation is the only way.
If you check the documentation cd you will find a couple of very useful doc's.
The Avaya P333T stackable switch software ane the
Avaya P330 Manager user guide provide all the info you'll need on port configs/settings.
Spanning Tree may be another useful avenue to pursue.
That said,we have tons of these running fine as long as both sides are locked at 100/Full.
P330 manager is a GUI and the P333T runs you thru the telnet commands.
Keep us posted please.

Thanks guys! Actually, I tried it out on an unused port first before I got to read your posts. From what I understand if you set the G700 port to 100 full you would also have to force the setting on the far end port (Cisco?), is that correct?

n25,

yes, you should set the corresponding cisco port to 100/full. if you leave it in auto, you'll get problems: if avaya side has 100/full and cisco side is auto, cisco will fall back to 100/half. we had it too often to forget. :(

Thanks dwalin! I'll try and get the our network guy here to check it out...
