I have read a few threads but getting mixed answers

Currently running Brightstor ver 9, I am usually used to Backup Exec and I am running out of space on my local c:

There are 6 files all different sizes I either want to delete or purge but I am not sure how to - any help would be great to get me sorted on this rocky road of Arcserve.

astpsdat.000
astpsdat.001
astpsdat.004

asobject.004
asobject.002
asobject.000

Thanks everyone

Steve

those files should not be deleted.
The db prune job can be used to maintain the db size, enabled via the AS Server Admin.
Utilities can be used to actually reduce the db size, dbdfrag but then the output files need to be deleted after, or keybuild can be used to free up space. Both of those only apply after records have been deleted via either manually deleting them or the auto prune job.

Quick fix is to initilize astpsdat, done via AS Server Admin.

See vldbutil doc in AS directory and faq's in the ARCserve forum.

Thanks for your info - glad I didn't delete !!!

Can I move them ?

vsdbutil doc - where is it located ? I have searched the forums, it must be friday !!! Do u have a link to it ?

thanks for your input really appreciated.

They can only be moved by reinstalling to a different location.

It is an html document and it is in the ARCserve directory.

There are other database files, asjob, asmedia etc but the biggest is the astpsdat because it contians all the session and file information of your backups. If you are going to initialise databases only initialise the astpsdat, this way you'll avoid losing everything. Check what information you are putting into the database, CA recommend only job and session to keep the database small. For me if the database gets over 4.5GB I start to worry! You can get a set of fresh databases from CA if initialising the astpsdat doesn't work - this does happen !

Thanks for all on the above posts -
I was unable to find the vsbutil.html file on the CD or in my Backup directory.

astpsdat.000 72 meg
astpsdat.001 10 meg
astpsdat.004 154 meg

asobject.004 152 meg
asobject.002 438 meg
asobject.000 1 gig
asobject.001 671 meg

My concern is the 1 gig one !!!

So where do I go to trim these ?? I cannot get my head around this software !!! ahhhh

you are looking for the wrong file name.
quick fix initlize the astpsdat database, it's done via the Server Admin click on the DB tape and the go to operation.

Thanks guys, I have a lot more space now - will get me out of jail for a while.

davidmichel,

Just wanted to say thanks. The other net admin here was having the same problem with pruning the DB, he said your post helped him out a ton.
