We have Win2000 Server setup with a 30 count Per Seat license package. Our problem is that we are seeing workstations having multiple sessions on the server and using more license counts than we expected locking out subsiquint users.

We have two questions:
1. How can we prevent the multiple session issue.
2. If we have 30 workstations that can be online at the same time how many licenses should we be running.

We have a mix of Win2000, Xp, ME workstations. It looks like the users grabbed a license when the logged in and then went for another one when a mapped drive was activated????

Any and All help is appreciated.

Ran into same problem so we switched to per seat licensing.

Do what PSS (Microsoft Product Support Services) would tell you to do:

Go to Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Services and find the License Server.

Access the properties by right-clicking, select Disable from the Pulldown.

Stop the service.

That should resolve it. The license server hasn't worked right for years - and still doesn't. It will track multiple concurrent connections from the same machine, which are completely legal and OK by all the licensing standards, but will take a lic count for each connection - which has been bugged all the way back though and including (as I rmember) the Windows NT 3.5 beta program.

Rick's right, licensing isn't a great app. BUT, don't disable it if you have exchange or sql 2000. anything earlier is fine!

As long as you have less than 30 PCs, less than 30 people, you are safe if you have those bits of paper.
