Very broad question, but can anyone spare a sample running config for a T1 connection. I am installing a 1721 and a 2611 tonight..well in about an hour. The 1721 is going at the customer site and the 2611 at a data center. They are both connecting thru a T1 connection. Can anyone help, I have only done a serial connection in modeling.

A very generic configuration for ppp would be:

Router(config-if)#ip address x.x.x.x y.y.y.y
Router(config-if)#encapsulation ppp
Router(config-if)#no shutdown

Where x=ip address and y=subnet mask

If you aren't interested in compression or authentication, that's all there is to it.

If you want HDLC instead of PPP, simply substitute HDLC in the above command.

I know that info...Im just stressed because this one consulting good could lead to a lot, so im trying to do really good and TIMELY. Im wondering about the CONTROLLER command. I have seen this on some running configs, but I havent quite got to understanding its purpose. Or what about the clock rate and other configs? Anything else i should be aware of?

The controller is used if you have an internal CSU/DSU you need to configure. Likewise, you would only need to worry about clock rate settings if you have the onboard CSU/DSU.

The configuration is fairly simple and straight forward. As I said, if you aren't looking to use compression (recommend against anyway) or authentication, there isn't a lot to it.

The only other tidbit you probably know is that you will need to make sure the route entries configured.

Breathe deep and have a Mt. Dew (that's where I'm going now), as it always helps provide clarity of thought.

Thats weird about the controller entry...under config t global, I have the controller entry, but when I input router#(config)controller ?, it says "unrecognized command." There must be some prior steps i need to take. About the dsu/csu, I have an internal card in wic slot0. About the T1, I just found out it is a private line... leased I am guessing. What other configs for the WAN interface should I know/consider?
