What file do I need to edit to start a program/run a command script on startup? Running Irix 6.5...

In a nutshell:
Startup scripts are located in /etc/init.d and linked to /etc/rc2.d to be executed at startup in correct order.
Create your custom script similar to existing ones and link it to rc2.d (see 'man rc2' for details).
