Hi,

which COBOL / CICS maiframe-source-compatible systems are there and what are your positive and negative experiences?

Are they expensive?

For example: I know that CA-REALIA can handle CICS but I don't have any experience with CICS so I don't know how much trouble it is to downsize a mainframe CICS system to the PC. Do you?

Regards,

Crox

I have never tried it, but Micro Focus COBOL is supposedly 100% compatible with IBM mainframe COBOL and CICS (with the appropriate settings).

Is is not clear to me whether you are looking for a CICS solution where you port the PRODUCTION USE of your application to CICS - or whether you are looking for a CICS development solution on the PC for "production on the mainframe" applications.

The answer to this MIGHT impact who provides the best solution. To the best of my knowledge the following all have SOME CICS on PC products/offerings:

- IBM (VisualAge COBOL & CICS)
- Micro Focus (Mainframe Express)
- Fujitsu (via UniKicks - I think)
- CA-Realia

***

I think that all of these EXCEPT Realia also offer AIX and/or Unix solutions as well.

Hi Bill Klein,

If one wanted to port(not recode) a Mainframe CICS app to run on say, AIX how would you proceed.
