I need to be able to run a program as a different user.

I need to run the norton antivirus defs update package as the local administrator when a normal user is logged on.

Does anyone know how this can be done?

Many thanks

can you use the run as command? Or give that user temp admin rights then run the program. then remove their admin rights.

Hold the shift key down while right clicking on the program. This will show the "Run as" option in the list. Click on the run as and input the user name and password you want. James Collins

You scheduled tasks.

Create a task to activate after login and use the administrator details as the user name.

You will have to touch each machine, it cannot be done remotely. I spent a lot of time trying to come up with a method of running a program under the context of the local administrator. The Runas must be installed first as a service, and even when that is done, I didn't have much luck in getting it to work.

Your best bet is to create a domain service account. Give that account admin privileges on your machines, and as aforementioned, use/create scheduled tasks to run under that service account. Matt

Thanks for all your replies.

I tried the "Run as" approach on the users this morning but they found this "too complicated" for some unknown reason.

I am now thinking of including it at the end of the logon script - but would this run it under admin rights?
