Run scandisk...reboot loop problem

Hi to all! Having a situation where I run a scandisk on the C, reboot of course, it runs, finds NO problems, reboots to finish process, get the blue screen hardware error after the initial XP splash, but it flashes so quick you can't read it, and reboots. Comes up with either start normally (same result), safe mode (same result), or last known good config. Last known is the ONLY one that works. Outside of that, this machine runs like a champ. Here's more info:
-XP Home, SP2, all criticals up to date
-512 DDR
-AMD Athlon 2700
-ECS L7 Mobo
-Seagate 80GB

Diags performed:
-Shut down all possible programs in msconfig
-Looked at capacitors on mobo since that seemed to be a problem before with others, but found no leakage
-Cleaned the unit inside / out
-Power supply checked out fine
-Bios settings OK, including voltages
-Ran full scandisk (attempt to search / recover bad sectors), no problems
-Ran Seagate Seatools disk diags, no problems on C, but "passed with inconsistencies on F" which is a backup drive, but all OK with XP scandisk (It's C: we're having the problem with)
-All normal system maintenance kept up with, no spyware, defrag good, etc.
-Event viewer shows NOTHING....

Miss a driver issue somewhere maybe? Only other deal I can think of is a system restore at this point.

Out of ideas here. Help! Thanks in advance!

First, right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced tab, Startup and Recovery -- Settings.

Under the middle box, uncheck "Automaticly restart"

Second:
Start, Run, eventvwr.msc

What does it show, if anything, as a red noted issue under "System"?

You know...was just looking for you....you're all over the place and was hoping you specifically would see this!

OK...just unchecked "auto restart". Event viewer shows NOTHING under any one of these bad restarts, no red under system, just normal "information".

Just tried a scandisk again since I disabled the auto restart and now I can see the blue screen of course...it says "SESSION5_INITIALIZATION_FAILED".

Before I go through a reinstall, you agree with this below from MSFT site? Session5 is listed below....

. Then do a repair/upgrade/reinstall of XP:

Sounds great! Can't thank you enough for your time! Could you please though, give me a definition of "slipstream"? I did review the link and I *think* it sort of saves the SP2 in one spot so you don't need to download it? Correct? Not sure. I'll be giving all this a shot tomorrow night.

Also, what causes something like "session5....." failures?

A slipstream takes your original release of XP and incorporates all the Servoce Pack, hotfixes, patches and changes so that the end result is XP with all patches and service pack changes incorporated into your XP installation CD.

Get your hands on Service Pack 2 on CD. You can order it from Microsoft; or beg, borrow or steal the XP Service Pack 2 installation CD.

Your local computer shop should have a copy to borrow to do the slipstream.
