rs232 to ethernet adapter

Is it possible to link 32 barcode scanners to a 32 port rs232 to ethernet adapter which in turn is linked to a computer? Has anyone done this before?

I have done 8 serial ports on a PCI card and had several computers for a total of 100 scanners.
Each computer is on the network.
I had to create a VB app to read all the serial ports.
