Ok, i setup RPC over HTTPS and im having issues. Im trying to connect to it with a laptop at a remote location. It keeps trying and trying to connect but it times out. If i connect via VPN then it works so im sure the rpc stuff is setup right but im not sure if i have the right ports open on the firewall to let it pass.

Only port 443 is required on the firewall. Have you gone through a configuration checklist like this one:

Did you use your external DNS name on your cert?

Are you sure that you are actually making a HTTPS/RPC connection when you have the VPN open? You are probably actually just making a normal MAPI connection like you would on the LAN.
