Hi guys,

I only have limited info on this one. She keeps getting a RPC failure on the PC and it shuts down every minute. I'm not sure what the relevants of the RPC has but the PC shutting down all the time would indicate a virus to me i.e. BlasterWorm (She has no antivirus software) although I could not find msblaster.exe in System32 or virus.exe in Task Manager.

Is there any other virus that could be causing this so I can just run a stinger.exe on it? Due to it keep shutting down installing antivirus software could prove a problem,

Thanks

Does sound like a virus ala blaster, have you tried booting in safe mode? When the computer boots hold down F8 before the windows xp screen and select Safe Mode from the list displayed. Safe mode may allow you to install and run antivirus software without the machine rebooting every minute.

Do you mean that it will boot into Windows but only for about a minute?
If you can get it to run in Windows at all, you probably have time to go to system properties and turn off the automatic restarts. After the next reboot it should stay up long enough to run a virus checker.
Go - My Computer - right click - properties - advanced tab - Startup & Recovery - Settings - turn off automatically restart under System Failure.

Thanks guys good idea's, will try out and let you know.
