Hi,

I'm having a probelem with a particular server, not in the last 2 weeks can I get a FULL backup - I receive

{Client1} C: RPC Error Unable to Send.
{Client1} E: RPC Error Unable to Send
{Client1} save failed on E:\....\....\....\....\...

C drive has 6GB free and E drive has 2+GB free.
Would the E Drive error relate to Networker bombing out on long file names?

Any ideas please?
Many thanks
C

This looks more than a network related problem. Can you do manual backups from the client at all?

Hi,
This is strange. I reran a FULL on this client and it succeeded on the C drive whereas earlier it failed.
At the moment it is at 4GB on the E drive (out of 80GB) and is continuing. By the way all INCR's are successful.

After getting to 19GB, the server failed on the FULLbackup.
Same error again - RPC Error Unable to Send.
Would it have something to do with the network as opposed to the backup software?

This is definetly network related. Do you have multiple NIC's in your client or server?

Check the NIC card(s). Make sure that you are not using auto-negotiate on either end (and are using te same on both ends, e.g. 100Mbit full-duplex).

Thanks guys, I will chek this.
The server has one PCI network card that is live and also (not in use) 2 onboard network connextions.

Thanks TDun - I have checked the server, one end is at 100MB Full and the other end 'Auto'. Because it's in a live environment and it's NT, it needs to be rebooted after hours.
The server is also receiving a lot of collisions but has passed an INCR backup.
Once done, I'll attempt another FULL on it.

Excellent advice and many thanks.
After setting both ends of the server to 100Full, I kicked off a FULL backup last night. In the last few minutes it completed successfully! all 98GB.
Appreciate all the help

comtec17 - I am having this same problem with a Windows client that has multiple interfaces. It's somewhat random since this server was backing up fine a week ago, and now it won't complete. What is the concern with multiple interfaces?
Thanks-
