I ues to have LCR(least cost routing) on Executone hybrid systems that routed calls respective to their area codes and exchanges. Does the Norstar have this feature if not what suggestions can you guys give with dialing our local and long distance?
lynmar,
CICS W/CP100 is a nice package. You will find enough routing services for the average small business. Ask to preview the programming parameters from your vendor prior to install to assure yourself that the equipment will be flexible enough for your needs. It is a feature that our company finds is not used a lot since the deregulation of LD and its new cheapness. I see its return when VOIP trunking becomes more wide spread.
Just bear in mind that though you can program in many routes, it is very limited from an LCR perspective in that you only have one alternate route should your primary route fail. And it does not program exactly like most ARS or LCR you are used to. It is actually more like a failsafe than true LCR, in my humble opinion. But it will at least provide for fall back routing.
But if all you are looking for is the abilioty to route based on digits dialed you will be very happy.
Aar's advice on getting with your vendor prior is excellent!
Just make sure you explain what you really want in plain terms. There is often a differencebetween Nortel terminology and the rest of the industry. What they call LCR is not truly LCR but it suffices for many.
Thanks. So in regard to Alquesttech's response, I guess the Norstar does not use true LCR? Another words if I had T-1 lines coming in to the system and POTS and wanted to choose the cheapest route depending on the area code and NXX this won't suffice? And one more question, if I have a T-1 from location A, and it terminates on the Key system(location B) as analog lines, how do I have the system choose a POTS line for a 911 call?
I'm sorry - I did not mean to mislead you or confuse the issue. Yes, for the type of LCR you are describing that will definitely work. You can modify digits as well, (append/delete/modfy).
I am just used to most systems ARS/LCR having a choice of more than one path (usually dependant on time of day, weekday/weekend, users COS/FRL, etc. so that the least expensive route is a dynamic and flexible entity)
But to just determine whther you want to go T-1 or Analog is fine.
You can also use 'overflow' routing if you want to provide an autoativc backup to your chosen route (essentially the system is put in night mode and takes night routing path. If that path fails it switches to day routing path - note this requires that a control set be left in night mode all the time. I'm not trying to confuse the issue, just let you know what your options are.)
As far as having the sytem choose a pots line, you would use your route table to tell define the route for 911 calls and send them to the Line pool that has the analog lines in it.
If you are networking the two systems I would advise that you have at least one or two anolog/pots lines on each system (One loop start trunk card has 4 ports/lines), put them in the same pool and send the 911 calls out locally on these lines instead of sending them across the network link and out to the C.O. It makes finding the location easier for the emergency responders.
Lynmar,
I worked for Executone for 9 years. Two years in the LCR Dept. Thankfully the Executone product has died. Unreliable platforms, software bugs and cheap hardware contributed to its downfall. LCR was a good concept at the time but not anymore. You will find more than enough routing configurations in the CICS. Good Luck!!!
Well if you are going point to point you will probably need an MICS. In the MICS System you have the choice of what route will be used at what time of the day it will be used and you would set up these schedules under routing after Destination Codes you can choose up to three different routes depending on time of day.
Hello team
i need to have Norstar CICS 6.1 to dial 1780 before any call in order to benefit from an alternative telephony provider , can i do this? how?
