Our former phone system admin retired so here I am trying my best.

We have some old POTS lines coming in to the building for fax machines etc. and we'd like to move them to our switch. (a G3siR6) The phone company can send them to our switch, but how do I go about routing them there? I believe they will send 4 digits, possibly 7.

I can post whatever configs you want here if it would help.

Thanks for any and all help! I'm trying my best to learn here... great forum!

Well a couple things. Do any of the last four digits of the POTS line conflict with your Extensions? If not then check your dial plan "CH DIAL" Look to see if you have EXT in the matrix under Four digits and the first digit in the digit you get from your CO. Plan B would be just try to add an Station. The ext would be the DID number.(POTS XXXX) Wisdom is Knowledge

Thanks All Phoneman2

Thanks Phoneman2!

I did some playing around yesterday under the trunk config. We strip off the leading three digits meaning we get 7 from the phone co. We don't have 5-9 defined in our dial plan for four digits, but I'm assuming it wouldn't be a problem to do so?

Thank you for your time, I greatly appreciate it!

At trunk level you can convert the incoming numbers to ANY internal number, so don't worry about your dialplan. Need help on the trunk-config? Just ax!

Good luck.

I think wat u need is did in this case. So whatever is the incoming number from the trunk side u need not worry at all because u can delete and insert digits to meet ur extension numbers. Suppose ur extn no. is 7456 and far end is sending 8996456 then u need to delete 8996 and insert only 7 ( it can be done in the first page of trunk group ) to route it to 7456 and u r through.

Thanks for all the replies! I only have 5 outstanding POTS fax lines that I need to route through the switch so I will probably just configure them in the trunk config screen. I tried it yesterday and it worked like a champ.

We have 250 DID #'s already and remove the first 3 digits by default.

Thanks again! I was making it much more difficult than need be.
