Hey guys,

we are adding one small office with 10 to 15 users and I have to install T1. what cisco router I should get to terminate the T1.

I am thinking 1841? any recomendtions?

Make sure to order it with the advanced security bundle (CISCO1841-SEC/K9)as you will get advanced firewall, VPN , and IPS functions with it that way. Might also consider smartnet for it as well. Not really that expensive but will give you access to IOS downloads and TAC. You can get a 3 year for about $400.00.

Probably want to get a WIC-1DSU-T1-V2 card to terminate the T1 line.

Hey Joaman ,

Thanks for reply. I am using pix behind router for bringing up tunnels but I am going to order WIC-1DSU-T1-V2 card to terminate the T1 line. 1841 can also do voip as we are also using IP phones at every location

The 1841 might be overkill if you are just going to use it as an edge router to terminate a T1 circuit. Sounds like the pix is probably doing the routing and nat functions...correct? If so why not just get a 1720 or 1721 with a WIC-1DSU-T1 to terminate the T1 line? Far less expensive and in surplus on EBay.

Joamon,

Yes you 100% right! the reason I was using pix, its very easy to bringup tunnels and its always pain to bringup tunnels on router specially the access list for tunnels and all that.

BUT I steped over and only used 1841 and configure every thing including tunnels and NAT on Router.. :) its working fine..

hey what would you recomond in 2800 series router for installing PRI.. i have to install at one of my clients and the reason for using 2800 is VOIP ( cisco Call maneger Express support) ..

Make sure to check the Cisco feature navigator as to the feature set you will need for the platform you choose. Usually available as bundle when you purchase the router and is cheaper that way. Would also recomment SmartNet for IOS bugfixes and TAC support.
