Router Flash Upgrade

hi guys...

i was wondering.. upgrading RAM on a router is no problem, but how about upgrading flash...?.. u know the IOS resides in flash, what will happen if i have to upgrade the flash, which will involve removing one existing module and replacing it with a bigger one..?..

will the existing IOS be affected in any way..?..

If you remove the existing flash & replace it with a new module then you have lost your IOS, unless the new module alraedy contains an IOS image.
If you are adding a module the original IOS will still be there but a 'sh flash' will show more available space. Normally the router boots off the first valid IOS image it sees in flash, so an increased flash could contain more than one image from which you can choose.

If you are going to replace one module with another, save the IOS to a tftp server first (copy flash tftp), and then restore it to the new (blank)module using ROMMON from the tftp server. This process depends to some extent on your router hardware, but look at

ok.. many thanks.. this is what i needed to confirm.. i will be upgrading a 2611 from 8MB flash to 32MB flash... won't be a problem..
