How hot is too hot in a room with fast PC's? Also what would be the ideal temperature for a room running a P4 or 2 or 3 pc's?

Server rooms are 68 to 74 F but as long as the cpu temp. can be kept in its operating range it does not matter.

Room temp won't really affect cpu temp until you get over 110 degrees (add 10 for case temp, and add another 15 for max cpu temp = 135, still safe, though on the warm side.

if your room is 110+ degrees I would recommend calling up your AC company (sears or whatever) and having some words with them :)

that being said, my room temp is usually between 50 and 85 depending if i open the windows or leave the door/windows closed. cpu temp typically stays under 105 under warmest conditions running high intensity games.

I work in a room with 2 central air conditioners (house size), a mainframe 4 PCs, three racks of servers and network gear and a rather large Telephone Switch. Even with 2 Air Conditioners it is a struggle to keep the room cool enough. The newer the equipment the hotter it gets. We try to keep the temperature right at 70 - 80 degrees F. When the Air gives up it gets really hot really fast. I dont know if the high ceiling helps or hurts the situation. Ideally we should bring in cooler air in the winter months but it is a completely enclosed environment.

The room temp. is maintained at a level that keeps the user(s) happy.

The CPU and system temps should run lower than 60 deg. C and 45 deg. C, respectively.
If either run higher than these, then either lower the room temp(an increase in the room temp. will increase the CPU and system temps), or improve the computer's cooling system by installing additional and/or higher capacity fans, more efficient heatsinks, etc.
