rollover/disjointed swap image with text 1

Newbie here, humor me I would like to have text change color on mouseover and at the same time display a different image below. Now I figured that shouldn't be a problem if I make my text (eg. Meet the team) a symbol...however, basically the mouseovers work, but on the second frame.. the "over" state...the text displays in a white box the colors are right, but since I am placing the whole thing on a jpg...the white box really doesnt do anything for me !
what am I missing? Thanks muchly !

So your roll-over/swap image is working correctly as far as function but you want to get rid of the white box behind the text.....

Am I understanding the question?

Is the image that you want displayed below showing correctly? Ya' Gotta Love It!X-)

yep, I think so Jeff ! The (over)text is there but in a white box. When creating the text (symbol)I used a transparent br...which worked fine for the original (text) image

I think...if I understand your question correctly...you need to change the text to gif instead of jpeg. Jpeg does not support transparency and will show your canvas color behind the text or image that you export.

Try this and see if it helps...if not we will figure out what the real problem is.

hmm....actually since I created the text in fw it is neither a jpg or a gif....I figured it would work like flash ( being a graphic), no? I haven't even tried to export anything yet....that's when I would chose the format, or am I not thinking straight here?

Wow! ok...I think I completely understand your dilemma now...(sorry if I am a little slow...lol) I do not know what is causing the white box though...

Is there any way you could send me the file or upload it so I can see it? I could probably tell you in a matter of minutes what the problem is and how to fix it.

You are thinking completely straight I think...(not so sure I am but I was born that way...lol)

I understand now that you are still in Fireworks and yes it should work correctly right there without the white box but you do need to specify it as gif if you want it to be transparent. It may be a gif already but it would not hurt to make sure.

I looked at the code in browser preview..and everything seems to be in .gif format....(?) sigh

well...like I said earlier...probably the quickest way would be to email it to me and I will let you know what the problem is in about 15 minutes.

Just do a File/save as and save it wherever you like then send it to me as a .png file.

Uploading to the web would work just as well.

Alrighty then! I got it. Give me a few minutes of playing with it and I will post back.

A couple questions first...

The big white rectangular box in the back....is that the one you wanna get rid of?

I am showing that the area behind the little button(meet the team) is in fact transparent. Is that what you want? Ya' Gotta Love It!X-)

when you roll over the "meet the team" in preview the peach colored text has a white background...not transparent...that's what I want to get rid off !

I have the file opened in Fireworks... I am rolling over the "Meet the Team" text. The text is white and changes to peach color when I roll over it. I am seeing the white/grey checked background behind the text which signifies transparency in Fireworks. It is not showing as white.

And you are seeing a solid white background behind the text"meet the team" when you roll over it...correct?

if you are not in bed yet...I figured it out...

the big white rectangle on your first frame.....select it and hit copy...

Go to your second frame and hit paste

with the big white rectangle still selected go to modify/arrange/send to back

presto! Ya' Gotta Love It!X-)

most of the time when I do rollovers...I will wait until I have all the text and graphics on the first frame....

Then I will select everything...go to frame 2 and hit paste.

This will place everything in the first frame onto the 2nd frame in exactly the same locations.

At that point just change the text to what you want it to be on rollover.

Simply go back to frame 1 (do make sure you have slices over all the text that you want to roll-over)and add your behaviours. Ya' Gotta Love It!X-)
