Got a problem with roaming profiles that I would like to be able to get some help on. We have a W2K DC, one-domain setup, and we have a mixed bag of W95, W98 and W2K Pro clients. All we really want profiles to do is to configure e-mail access within Outlook, so that every time someone logs in, they don't have to go into mail properties and do it manually (or call in and have me walk them through it). In the alternative, does anyone know of a script that I can append to the logon batch file that might accomplish this same thing? The only services we are using in the profile is Microsoft Exchange Server, Outlook Address Book and Personal Address book. Me: We need a better backup system.
My boss's boss: Backup? We don't need no stinkin' backup!

Theres no script that can create roaming profiles. They can be setup using a GPO. This is as easy as running a script.
I'm with you the better the backup the easier and more stable my job is.

I'm familiar with now to create roaming profiles, I'm just not familiar with how to make them do only what we want them to do. We had them enabled back when we were an NT 4.0 domain, but we started having a lot of problems with them, so we took them out of the loop. For example, if we had a user that we wanted to upgrade from Office 97 to Office 2K, it was almost impossible because the application portion of the stinkin' profile would render Office useless. The profile would think that the person was configured ONLY for Office 97 and Office 2K would crap out. If I could be selective about what the profile did -- for example, only set up e-mail and desktop setting, disable a few things in the Control Panel -- then I'd be all for them. But it just seems that they create more problems than they solve, especially in a mixed Windows 95,98,2K client environment like ours

Anyone have any ideas? Me: We need a better backup system.
