Roaming profiles - opinions

Just wondering what experiences other people have had with roaming profiles.
I think they're a nice idea but it seems the overheads are quite substantial and the consistency of the profiles seem to degrade with time. I.e. after a year or so desktops vary from machine to machine and various versions of profiles appear to accumulate on machines.
Also the do not cach roaming profiles option doesn't seem too effective.

I run 2 networks with roaming profiles but would never reccommend them. Any opinions?

I set up a couple users with roaming profiles a few months ago and almost immediately realized it wasn't a good idea. In my case we have two locations with a few users who work at both. We have a VPN connecting the two (cable on one end, dsl on other) and one Win2k server. A roaming user logging into a workstation in the location without the server was pretty much out of the question because of how long it took. Even logging into a computer at the server's location seemed to take too long. I don't think I'd recommend roaming profiles except under very specific circumstances.
