Here at my new job we use a Microsoft Exchange Server to do email, and the users are either on Windows NT or Windows 2000 machines. We're a doctor's office, so people tend to roam around a lot. But now all the nurses want email, so my boss and I are looking into roaming profiles.

Would this work in a mixed environment? Will users be able to log in to an NT machine, check their email, then log into a Windows 2000 machine to check email, then back into an NT machine and still see everything? Thanks for any input. Jennifer Sigman

What email client were you planning on using? If your using Outlook 2k or above you should be ok doing this. If your using outlook express(Pop3) the profiles will get farily big and take longer to load as they receive more and more mail, since the mail is stored in the profile rather than on the mail server. Hope this helps

Jennifer,

I think for Exchange-based e-mail you won't have problems provided using Outlook 2K or above, as Nick outlines.
The only thing is about the profiles themselves. We too have a mixed environment, but I have NT4 group-policies running (am working in a school) on a NT4 PDC. And those policies can get a bit hairy when applied to a Win2K workstation, especially with mandatory profiles. I am still investigating on this...
