Hi,

I have just set up a new PC and of course it came with Windows 7.

In true MS style after attaching it to the company domain, nothing works when the user logs on.

No roaming profile is loaded and no logon script runs.

I did a G! and found threads claiming it was to do with UAC, so I truned it off, but still it doesn't work?

How can i get the AD roaming profile & logon batch file script to work?

Thanks,

Are you taking into consideration the differences between XP user profiles and those of Vista and Windows 7? Maybe you have to change the script to point to correct locations or something similar?

Hey Linney,

I did trawl through quite a few threads that all seemed to ask the same question but get no answer.

One thread the OP kept saying as am I... I just have one user I need to copy their XP profile to V2 quick and simple.

But the replies just kept saying UMT (User Migration Tool), which I tried when I had a Vista machine and the profile never copied properly.

The instructions are also vast and confusing, so far I've not found a thread that gives simple consice , step by step instructions on how to migrate a user.

I even decided to just copy the desktop / favourites / my docs, but after changing the permissions on the server for the V2 profile to 'User' - Full Control and 'Administrator' - Full Control so I could get access to the folder to copy over the old profile, now the V2 profile won't load and W7 moans there is a problem and loads some default local profile.

Upon reflection I'm going to format the PC Monday and re-install XP.

Firslty this is all too much hasle when I have more important thigns to be doing, plus...

As we use roaming profiles and staff hotdesk, this new PC is in a main part of the office where others will log on who usually use XP machines, and they will find their profiles won't copy over.

I also can't get Sophos to install from the enterprise console...

Bascially W7 is not a viable option unless everyone upgrades.

As people can't hotdesk with user profiles and logon scripts between XP and W7 machines, W7 is going to have to go.

It's a shame, but there is no way the copmpay is going to upgrade the whole fleet of PC's just because MS can't make the new versions of Windows compatible with previous versions in a domain environment.

In your situation would Windows Easy Transfer do a better job than the State Migration Tool?

Unfortunately due to the 'hotdesk' requirement of this PC and the incompatible nature of Windows 7, it's going to have to have XP put on it.
