Ok, this bugs me like nothing else. Single windows 2000 server domain. Lab of 28 newish Dell XP machines. Roaming profiles for all users. Logon takes around 4 seconds, but log off takes a full 60 seconds, sometimes longer. I made some changes in group policy, to exclude some folders, no change. Created a test account with no roaming profile, logout no problem, takes about 2 seconds then. Even with a clean new roaming profile, the logoff still takes just as long.

Any thoughts?

Have you turned of file synch on logoff and offline files. I dont know how you have your Roaming Profiles setup. But, here we dont let the my docs or any of the internet info roam with them. We just redirect there my docs to a userfolder on the server (there home drive). That way you dont have to send your my docs to the server everytime you log in and out. You might also want to set a profile limit that way you can see what it being saved to the profiles.

I set up the redirected folder like you suggested, and the log off time is around 30 seconds now! Much better that it was. Is that a resonable time period or should I expect it to be quicker?
