roaming profile /my doc's extremley large

hi i have a 2003 server with 50+ workstations and 300 clients set with roaming profiles. The boss has decieded to save a lot of work in his my doc's back at the server 8GB lol (yer i told him he was taking the****)but he being the boss i smiled after.... anyway when it took him 45 mins to log on the other day the shoe was on the other foot when i told him to come in 1 hr earlier and log on!!! this is not the answer . i was wondering if it was the way i have set things up that maybe the problem. i wish that when he logs on that only any updated files over night he has worked on can be updated at his profile on the server and not for the whole 8GB to be downloaded to his laptop/ then when he logs off it does not take 45 mins for it to sign off..
I know it is his DOcs as i have removed it to another folder and that sorted out the prob straight away 5 seconds to log on...any ideas many thanks in advance

Your post is a little difficult to read, but offline files and folder redirection would be the way to go.

If it's only "my documents", I find it's quicker to map the folder to the server...

Create a "user" directory on the server if there isn't one already, and map a drive... copy the "my documents" items to the users folder and change the link for the my docs folder to point to the user directory instead of the local profile directory.

Majority of users have no idea that it's set up this way. I've started doing it cause most users won't copy their data to the server for backup.

Ok, I thought I knew a little about roaming profiles, but I guess not. We have folder redirection set up at work, so only our "My Documents" folder gets redirected to a share on the server. For each profile in AD, under the Profile tab, the Home folder is set to connect to H: and then \\servername\username$. Why does that need to be done if the My documents folder is already being redirected.

Also, I though that if I create a roaming profile, that EVERYTHING gets stored in the location you specify in the "Profile Path" under the Profile tab for a particular user...not the case I've found out, but maybe I'm missing something. I created a roaming profile called "troamer" and created a shared folder called "troamer$" and gave appropriate permissions. Then, under the profile tab for profile path, I put \\servername\troamer$. But when I connect to any computer, it copies all the defaul sys folders like "Application Data, Cookies, Favs, Desktop, etc. ". I thought all that gets stored in the \\servername\troamer$ directory. I disabled offline files to prevent the whole profile from being copied to each local computer, but I think there's a key element I'm not seeing here. Can anyone help? How do I get everything to be stored on the server and never be copied to any client cpus?
