Roaming Profile Environment Variable

Is there an environment variable that gets set when you setup a roaming profile? I need to use a variable that would point to that users profile directory. Right now, even though i have a roaming profile for a user, the %USERPROFILE% variable still points to its local "c:\Documents and Settings.....

You do that in AD on the profile page, top entry. You can set it for all users to \\servername\sharename\%username%

Thats not what I mean. I have all that setup. What I am trying to do is run an outlook prf file to customize the outlook profile. In this prf, I am atatching to a users pst files across the network. The pst file is located in a subdir of the users roaming profile dir. So, in my prf I would like to use something like:

PathToPST=\\%USERPROFILE%\outlook\%USERNAME%.pst


The problem is that the %USERPROFILE% goes to the local profile info in Documents and Settings. I need a variable that will point to the roaming profile location.

so I need %variable% = \\user\profile\path

You can pick that up from the /home variable. So in the profile in AD, set H as the home folder \\servername\%username% or whatever, then you want to go to H:\profile\path

Adjust as necessary.

ok, so you pretty much assign the home dir to the path of the profile and use the drive letter assigned to home in whatever you need.

I got it. I never thought of using the home dir. Thats mainly because all the drives are mapped in a logon script as of now, so I had no need to do it.

The login script should have a line for:
net use h: /home
which looks to AD for the location.

Or you can do it manually as you are probably doing.

And don't forget that networked .pst files are NOT supported by MS, and not recommended.

And Exchange on a domain controller isn't supported or recommended either. But not many SMEs it isn't a choice.

Except that they do have a product that does put Exchange on the DC - Small Business Server.
