We have installed a small home ICS network with Roadrunner, via a Router-Gateway-Firewall unit. There are three PC's connected:WinXP(2.4ghz),Win98(100mhz),Win95(286mhz).The XP and 95 machine have all networked fine, except for the 98 PC.The NIC on the problem PC is checking out fine. The person that actually implimented the router did have some complications with the Win95 PC,but then got it to network.Could this be an IP addressing problem with the router?Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1. If you have a router, you should not be using ICS.

2. If you meant by a router ICS, check the Win98 settings for possible problems:

. Are there any virutal Adapters: AOL Adapter, Microsoft VPN Adapter, anything Adapter(2), etc. and delete them.

. Are there any unnecessary protocols? You should have only TCP/IP bound to the adapters.

. Is Netbios enabled for the NIC TCP/IP adapter?

. Are TCP/IP Properties for the machine configured to obtain an address automaticly?

If all of the above are answered correctly, then see if the machine can see the other boxes on the network. If not, it is a hardware issue with your cable, router (you did not I hope plug into the uplink port) or NIC on the Win95 machine.

Well..for some reason the 98 cannot communicate with the router, and now its telling us there is a IP address conflict.

What are the IPs of all 3 machines and the router? From XP command line, IPCONFIG /ALL; from 98 and 95 command line WINIPCFG, I think there's a detailed button. Post the output of these to help with troubleshooting...
