RJ45 or RJ47? 2

I have a cable labelled "ENHANCED 350MHZ CAT.5E TYPE CM 4PR 24AWG 75 oC (UL) E151955 ETL VERIFIED TIA/EIA-568B.2 UTP CAT.5E 2H7003". The connectors on the ends are male, with 8 contacts. Are these RJ45 or RJ47 connectors?

RJ-Whatever is a SPECIFICATION of how to wire a jack for a specific purpose. It tells you the minimum number of contact you need in the jack, and which signals to connect to which pins for the specific service being delivered on that jack.

Thank you, TouchToneTommy, for your reply. Here is my problem. I know that I need to use the cable mentioned above to connect a computer, that we are purchasing, to the internet. The computer spec says it has a RJ-45 I/O Port. Will this cable work?

Yes, the 8-pin connectors are commonly (incorrectly) refered to as "RJ-45" connectors.

The more important thing to look at, is the wire pattern inside the plugs. Hold them side by side, and check to make sure that they are exactly the same, not reversed from one another, or having the pair on pins 1&2 of one side going to pins 3&6 on the other.

what you want is a standard patch cord not a crossover cable .

like tommy says hold the plugs side to side if the colors are the same its what you want
