Hi

I've created a CD image (XP SP2) and pushed it out to a laptop via RIS. I then installed some software, etc and ran riprep. Everything has been copied to the remoteinstall folder on the RIS server but I cannot see this new image in Active Directory.

Any ideas as I can't seem to find anything in tek-tips or on google using various searches.

Cheers

Yes it's in the same location as the original CD image, the default folder created by the RIS setup

Has no-one any ideas? This is really causing me issues now as my users are screaming for their laptops. I really don't want to configure them manually.

Just a stab in the dark... but have you tried refreshing the AD view? I mean, if you had the same window open before and after you R.I.Prep-ed the image, then perhaps it simply isn't refreshed.

I had a similar problem when i first did this, but the problem went away. Sadly I don't remember exactly what I did. It is possible I ran RIS Setup again and selected the "Repair Server" option, or whatever it is called.
It is also possible I ran the "Verify Server" button in AD.

Sorry i can't be more helpful...

Incidentally, I just thought... when you ran RIPrep, did you select the same Folder as the folder that included the default image? If so, you may have overwritten your default with the new image. This may not be a problem. You could run a Remote Install on a new laptop, selecting the default image and see if this is the case.

Hi Will

Thanks for your post, I've been spending some time on this today and I can confirm the following that may help:

The image is in a new folder, which all looks OK. I did a refresh but nothing, I noted problems while running riprep relating to

ntdetect.com
ntldr
ristndrd.sif
startrom.com

I also noted that all these files are kept in a templates folder in the original image folder. It then made sense to me that maybe I can't see the image listed in AD because there's no sif file in the new image folder, indeed no templates folder at all containing the others. To check this, I copied the templates folder from the original image folder to the new image folder and the image was listed. Obvioulsy with same name as the original. I then edited the SIF file to show a new description and that change was reflected in AD.

I don't know if this is valid, if it can be fudged to work this way now or indeed, if any further folders/files are missing?

Cheers

See if there are any differences. Also, make sure you have files in the mirror folder reflecting the root drive.

Thanks Will

I'll see what I can discover?

Out of interest do you use RipRep then? If so, do you have the following folder structure where the images go:

>images
>imagename
>i386
>Mirror1
>User Data

Do you have a templates folder in there or anything else?

Cheers

Yes. It is in the i386 folder, along with Mirror1 and RIPrep.log

Incidentally:
RIPrep = Remote Installation Preparation... rather than
RipRep = Remote installation pReparation? [smile]
