I would like to be able to program a 6416 that when the user goes off hook it automatically connects to an announcement(thru a vector or vdn I assume) , , this will be temporary , the extension is functioning normally now and would return to the same after the programming .we have an s8700 and appropriate announcement boards.. can this be done and where can I find the programming commands to do this or can some one list them .
BTW we have elevator fones that ring our campus police upon off hook closure .. but this would be an announcement

I just tested this with a 2420, so it should work with a 6416.
1. put your announcement extension in your abbbreviated-system list
2. Build an analog station (x-ported) with a hotline destination to the system list entry form step 1.
3. Change the 6416 station programming, remove all the call appearances, and add an abrdg-appr to the analog station built in step 2.
4. Pick up the handset of the 6416. You may have to press button "1", but as soon as you do, you will be connected to the announcement.

This will also prevent the 6416 from receiving calls.

When ready to put the phone back in service, just add the call-appearances back to the set.

Let us know if this works for you.
