Rightfax and smtp

I am having a hard time getting e-mail notifications to actually work with rightfax, and getting printers setup, I found a forum online @ rightfaxtrainingdotcomslashforums but there is only three members lol....

adding printers getting all sorts of errors, so I think it is something with the server.. but main concern is e-mail.. anyone setup the SMTP gateway? and/or do I need to set that up, if I just want notifications to be e-mailed, and not the actual faxes to be passed by e-mail...

i have not worked with rightfax but make sure your SMTP server is allowing from that address. Ihave had issues with other servers not being able to fax and that has helped.

Is this referring to an exchange email server or audix? Also what rightfax version?

rightfax 8.7... no exchange gateway module purchased/installed ....

our main e-mail server is exchange 2000, (I am not the one who deals with that server at all, I am mainly in charge of the PBX)

the network admin said that I have to install smtp on the fax server,, but I was unsure if I needed to do that, or can I just reference the "virtual smtp server" on the exhange server?

Are you getting any errors? Check the event log of the rightfax server for details on what it's having problems with. You didnt specify what you've done so far, so at this point its just a general guess.
Its a fairly lengthy setup process without the Exchange gateway module. Your exchange server does need a POP3 mailbox that the rightfax server will use when sending messages/faxes to users. Check out the captaris knowledgebase if you dont have support. Here are a couple of links to get you started:

Got it working.. thanks..
I setup a new mailbox on the exhange server, and I don't know what I did different than my first attempt.. but it is now working, it sends notification to my e-mail, and it will send copies of the fax as well.. Which is all I needed it to do,, (it doesn't send out, but I can end out faxes w/ faxutil and the rightfax printer, so all is good)

FYI - usually its the FROM address that isn't entered in the correct format that breaks it or in the user account properties in enterprise fax manager, the user's recipient inbound email address isn't fully specified and/or set to "miscrosoft exchange" instead of "SMTP".
