Actually using XP Home. When I right click on my desktop, I like to get only new--textfile. I've used TweakUI to manage this in the past on other machines, but on this computer, TweakUI works only for the current session. When I reboot, and then open (say) a Photoshop or Pagemaker file, XP builds (actually rebuilds, I've tried deleting it) a registry key (HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Discardable|PostSetup , and the files types show up again.

Any ideas

hmmmmmmm (sorry, no asnwer - just intreuged).

Have a look in your registry at this location
post the result.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Discardable\PostSetup\ShellNew]

Hey you guys thanks, but the point is when I delete the entries under the shell new key, XP rebuilds them...that's the point, how do I stop that?

More than likely it is the third party program reinstalling registry links rather than XP.

I think you have to blame Photoshop and Pagemaker for this, as XP is not adding these files automaticly to the "New" list of filetypes.
