Can a VB6 app return a string?

No, but you might consider using a COM object - VB DLL...

I would say that it would depend on exactly what you mean. What is the scenerio? What do you want to do?

I have an app that takes 3-5 params and does some portal doc submissions. A result string is created and I need to return that to the screen, but preferably to the sql agent that fired the vb app.
