Dear Tek-Tips friends,

I have an excel worksheet that is linked to an Access query. When I hit the 'Refresh Data' button in Excel, it calls on the destinated query in Access db to display the latest data.

This all works fine on a machine installed with Access 2000. However, when I try the same thing on a machine w/o Access or Jet Engine, the computer gives me 'Unrecognized database Format'.

Is there any way around this?? I tried changing the ODBC Data Source Settings to 'point to' the database location(directories and all). Nonetheless, it still doesn't work.

Please Help!!~~

Regards,

I have to admit that whenever I have retrieved data from Access, the machines I have used have all had Access installed on them, so I never saw the problem you describe.

However, in case I ever do, I thought I would try and help.

Take a look at this link as it may provide some help/pointers:

For those who use external data for excel...I know how to retreive data from sql to excel, but it is very static. I want to be able to move the data around on the worksheet and be able to refresh to the moved cells. Any help?

Thanks in advance!!
