Hi,

I have a website at work, this website is in a web folder on the web server. I don't have access to the root of the server.

There are few pages that I want to restrict only to the users of the country where I am in. The problem is that we are getting hundreds of requests from outside that we can't fulfill.

How to restrict these pages if the country name is not the country I am in.

I tried GeoIP solution but whoever accesses the pages reads that he/she is in our country, it does not reflect his/her actual country.

Thanks a lot
Paulin

Not sure if that's possible, getting that kind of data from a client.

Can you set up a page that forces the users to select their country from a drop-down box?? If so, then you can filter quite easily.

Regards,

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

I think this is the easiest solution, but how can you prevent the user from selecting a diffrent country?

I found a GeoIP database and code, but the problem is that you need to put it on the root of the web server, to which I have no access.

Thanks

Maybe "FORCES" was too strong a word to use. All you can do is "ALLOW" them to select a country from the list. What can you do to prevent them from selecting a different country??, not much I think, just have to rely on what they selected.

I'll have a quick search to see what I can come up with, there could be someone on this forum who has had this problem before and solved it.

Regards,

Patrick

Just had a quick look at GeoIP. Did a test to check if would see where I am located. I'm in Ireland, parent company is in U.S., came back saying that I was located in the United States. How are you going to handle that kind of situation??

Regards,

Patrick

Hi Partick,

This is what I am saying, I tried that, and I got the same results as you.

The client finds himsef/herself as from the country where the server is.

You are in Ireland and access the server which is in USA, the site will allow you because it says that you are from USA.

Thanks

I just treid GeoIP too. I am based in UK - so is company HQ. GeoIP told me I was in Belgium. Had to look out the window just to make sure I wasn't!!! :)

Cool, I wanna be in California....wait.....wait.....wait, dammit, it didn't work !!

Hi All,

FesterSxS, what did you find outside the window :)

If you try the online Demo of GeopIP you will get the right message, it will give you the right location, but when you apply their system it does not work.

Since this solution is not proper. How to try and restrict the pages. I thought of a registration system in which we ask for information abou the location (Tel., mobile or local ISP Email address), then verify the information. After we make sure that the information are correct, the user will get access.

What do you think about this solution?

Thanks
Paulin
