I have a 17.5Mb text file made up of 128,000 lines, each line being an individual record to be imported into a database. When I open the file and input each line using the 'Line Input' command I can only retrive the first 40,000, from then on each line inputed is blank. Can anyone help!!!!!

Hi,

I deal with much larger files on a daily basis (several hundred Mb) and never had any problems with line input. The problem must be somewhere else in the program. Make sure that you use a long (not an integer) to count your lines etc.

Another thing is that line input is easy to use, but very slow compared to reading large chucks (open for binary) or using the API to read the file.

Thanks, that seems to have worked!!!!

ejgb, read THE REST of her post!

Unless you are being paid by the CPU cycles used, importing "large" files via Line Input is quite counter productive!!!!!

Hi Michael

My voice might have sounded a little girlish due to the bad overseas internet connection, so I'll try to lower it to suit my sex....

Sunaj,

I was not refering to you/your post. Your response was 'fine'. It responded DIRECTLY to the question asked and provided an appropiate fix to the problem as stated. You even went on to offer additional -and appropiate- counsel. It was the alst part which was (aparently) overlooked by "ejgb".
