I have a problem with an IP, say 37, that was reserved on our DHCP for a server. It was targeted by spyware and I can't seem to find a way to break the link. I changed the IP to say 36 on that server and solved the spyware problem but, I can't reserve the new IP because the MAC address is the same as the old IP. So, I would like to retire the old IP but not the MAC as I need this to reserve the IP in the DHCP. I hope I made myself clear enough. Any ideas how I could go about this?

Thanks in advance,
David.

In the DHCP console under the scope you should see a reservations folder. Within there you should see the reservation created for .37 Simply delete this reservation.

basst, thanks for the response. I don't want to just release the reservation because the DHCP will just re-issue it to another workstation, I want to retire the IP because some clown has figured out a way to connect to this server with that IP and has done a considerable amount of damage. If I could get this person by the throat for a few minutes I would show them the true meaning of "malware".

err...thanks

IN the scope settings you should be able to exclude certain addresses.

Go to the address pool, right click, then click on exclusion range. Put your address in there twice to only exclude that one ip.

Done.

NetworkDOC-

Thanks, that worked perfectly.
