Retaining format in text copied from Word to Access

Hi,

I'm using a MS Word document to capture comments. It is a simple Word table with headings - "Ref" and "Comments.

I want to Paste Append this table into Access. This I can do - but this process loses any formatting in the original Word table. I just want to retain simple formatting like Return, Tabs, Bold.

Is there a way to specifiy this in the Paste Append or is there another solution?

I've thought about replacing the Paragraph mark in Word with a unique sequence (eg "zzz&quot and then doing a Find/Replace in Access on "zzz" to "Return". But I don't know how to insert special characters in Access.

Maturi,

Access is not a word-processor. You can store/display text
with carriage returns in it. For bold text, you could do
some tricks with VBA, or queries, but in the long run its
probably not worth it.

As for the Tabs, Access does not have a means of dealing
with this (as far as I know). For one of my apps I had to
go to a fixed-pitch font and substitute spaces for the
tabs.

You might investigate some other controls ActiveX or
RTF to get the desired effect.

Thanks for this. I agree Access is not a WP - and let's put the Tabs and Bold issue to one side and concentrate on just the Return formatting.

You are right that in the Memo filed Access can handle Returns. But you have to manually insert it. If I have a Return in a Word text field and I copy that field to Access the Return is replaced by a space.

What I would like to do is either
- retain the Return OR
- once it is in Access, re-insert the Return by some sort of find/replace (possibly through VB?)

Any further assistance appreciated.

I've sorted this out now.

If you are interested...

In Word you do a search on the Paragraph mark and replace each one with a Manual Line break.

Then when you copy into Access the Manual line break is preserved.
