Does anyone know of a way to stop users internet access, on a per user or per group basis.
We are running Windows 2K server with Active Directory. We have a proxy server, but the software on that server doesn't have anything about this.
Is there any software available or could this be done with Active Directory?
Ideally, I would like to be able to restrict access on a per group basis, but this would only be for a certain period of time. After that time I could remove them from the blocked access.
This is a school network & access needs to be denied during certain lessons.
Any help would be appreciated.

what proxy software are you using?

Most proxy software has the ability to have per user authentication.

Squid, a popular linux proxy system, does have per user authentication which we use here.

Change your proxy over to Smoothwall Express and Advanced Web Proxy. That has integration with with Windows AD, LDAP, Radius or internal users. It's also free and can be set up and configured in about 30 minutes. It also has content and virus filtering based around DansGuardian and ClamAV. There are tons of other mods out there and a fantastic support community.
