Good morning all. I'll admit upfront that I am very new to IP office. Any help with a problem on a new system would be much appreciated.

I have a 8.1 system that I need to restrict one set from being able to dial LD calls from. This is a lobby phone in one of my clinics that patients can call someone on to pick them up after their appointment. My vendor programmed this and it is totally restricted (It looks like) from making any calls on it. Looking around at others postings it look like short codes are how this is done? This extension 203 is programmed under short codes as 91N Barred line group 0.

Again any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Indeed user shortcodes.
Remove the 91N shortcode and add a new one with 9 and the digit for long distance and the N
Set it to barred and you are good to go.
The IPOffice looks in to the shortcodes and finds a best match so if you want to allow one special number then add it as a dial shortcode and block the rest.

make sure you add 91800N and all the toll free numbers to be allowed if you want them to be otherwise the user will not be able to dial those either

If you want to make it more elegant and so that the user actually still gets a dialtone back after the 9

create a new ARS
enter all toll free options being able to dial and just lease 011N, 1N and anything you want to disallow on action barred

make a user shortcode
9N
dial
N
ARS no LD

that way the ARS can be assigned to more than 1 user with one shortcode and you don't have to create them for each user you want to restrict. Saves time if you have more users takes longer for only 1 user but gives you the dialtone after the 9.

I'm not sure I understand guys. The code in it now is 91N. The LD code is 1 so that is what is hosing me up. thats means the entry should be 91N??

I like CM better.. :) LOL

the shortcode is what you dial
so anything that starts with 91, and any digit after that, will be barred from dialing out.

if you want to allow toll free then you need to tell the system exactly what is not allowed and what is allowed.

if the User 203 has the shortcode
91N barred
in as a personal shortcode then you cannot dial anything that starts with 91 from that phone.

You should be able to dial 9-2344321 for instance as that is a local number (or if you do 10 digit dialing 9-7892344321 should also work)

look into the user programming under shortcodes and maybe there is a shortcode in there that is just
9N barred
which would restrict any outside calls

Well Joe I appreciate you hanging in here with me. As long as I have done this I should know better than listen to the users complaint and take it as it is. You right in the fact that they can call local. The real problem is that they cannot dial the 1-800 0r 1-8?? at all. This system 100 miles away so I didn't get to make the calls. I had someone try it for me and thats what we found. So now I need to add a short code to allow 1-8?? numbers work?

Thanks again for the help.

Then you need to add 91800N shortcode like this:

91800N
dial
1800N
Line id trunk.

As i mentioned before the IPO checks all the shortcdes for the user and uses the best match.
So when you dial 91800XXXXXX then it will go out
When you dial 91801XXXXX then it will be barred as there is a better match then 91800XXXXX

Being a CM guy I added wildcards to the dial string. I added an entry 918xxN and dial. Will that work allowing all 1-8XX number to be dialed or do i need to setup one for each 1-8??..

Thanks

918XX will allow all 8xx number yes.
But when there is no N behond it then it will stop after the xx so the N is crucial!!

yes it will but that also includes 18xx numbers which is anywhere from California to Texas and also the Dominican Republic, so you want to make only 1800N, 1888N 1877N and 1855N then feature dial and under phone number is the 1800N and so on with the line group ID of your line (probably 0)

Why do you guys have such a bad dialplan over there?

Ok guys here is what I have programmed in the stations short codes.

code telephone number feature Line group ID
91N barred 0
91800N 1800N dial 0
91888N 1888N dial 0

This should work? Also (and i really hate to ask this) I have to save the config before changes are made?

Yes, it is offline programming.

Thanks tipeter. I haven't really been into one of these before. I had been saving the config before trying as I thought I had to. I'll give this a shot in a little while when they take off the answering service for lunch.

Hopefully this will get that working for them.

Mike a little tip.

When it is an Avaya IPphone or digital phone then program a dial button with the number you want to try.
Then open the program monitor and connect.
Then go to filters and select trace options.
Go to the tab system and select Development tracing.
When you have done that click on OK to colse this tool
Then go to status and select DSS status.
Enter the extension number and click on ok.

Then double click on the button you programmed (remember the number where you placed it)
Use system status (go to active calls) and double click on the call.
You then will see what happens exactly.

You can only use this DDS status once so restart monitor every time you try a new call.

tlpeter, we are a state run hospital here with around 10 off-premise clinics. Unfortunately "low Bid" is what we have to take when we bid a system out. This usually includes all the equipment, licensing and installation. Well I got a low bid installer for this system that was supposed to know IP Office. Now I am having to fix the little left overs that are still lingering with the install. I have 4 of these systems out there now and haven't had to touch one until now. The rest are small and installed by a Avaya BP who does know IP Office.

This is reminding me of when I went from a Dimension 2000 to a V1 G3R. There was a major learning curve to say the least..

I appreciate your and Joe's help this morning. I have a long ways to go.

We only have one or two customers with a CM so that will not be needed as we hire a company for that but thanks for the offer :)
