Is there a way to restore a windows *.bkf file using Backup Exec?

We need to restore some email messages that were on exchange, which was backed up using Windows backup. We don't want to restore it back to a life server, I just want to extract the EDB file from it.

Any ideas?

Yes you can.

You need to create a backup to disk folder, the folder must have the bfk file in it.
Once done, inventory and catalog the bkf file, then you will be able to restore from it.

I tried that, but it still wants me to restore back to the original exchange server

You need to redirect the restore in backup Exec - on the exchange tab (for 8.6) or Exchange redirection (on 9.x), you have to specify to redirect exchange sets and to which server.
