We are getting this error while restoring one of our production databases. We get this error only on one of our databases in one server. Any ideas on this error???. Plz let me know if there is any KB articles refers to this particular problem in SQL Server 2000 (SP2).

The DBCC runs for a long time and the disk dump kicked off and promptly failed with an error:

The backup data in ' ' is incorrectly formatted. Backups cannot be appended, but existing backup
sets may still be usable.

I'm confused. Are you backing up the database or restoring? The subject refers to restoring but then you say "disk dump" in the messsage.

How is this process run? Is it a maintenance plan, a SQL query or some other method? More detail will really help us provide some help to you.

Does the backup process append to or overwrite existing files or create new files? I assume the backups are on disk. Terry L. Broadbent - DBA

My wrong: I am trying to restore a full .bak file from one db to another db in a different server. The full back up is scheduled daily. I tried restoring the scheduled one and also made a manual full back up and had the same results.
