Hello, I hope someone can help me.

I have recently had to do a restore of someones mailbox. I finished the restore from a full backup and then subsequent incrementals. I then decided to Export all the info into a .pst file (the user is on a laptop)and delete the original mailbox and then recreate it, I did this because I thought a new mailbox would be more stable. However, the user has now come to me and said that a lot of his contacts are missing.

My question is, can I still restore the backed up contacts to the new mailbox or am I going to have a problem because of security ID's etc?

Also, is it possible to display an old .ost file in outlook despite the outlook using a new profile? If so how is this done?

Thanks for any help, you may just save my life !

Paul

Hi,

Can anyone help on this? I still really need to know. Also, another problem has now developed, it usually takes about 6hrs to do my backup but for some reason it is currently taking 45 hours with 45 hours still to go!

Hi,
You can restore the contacts to a different .pst, have another user open up those contacts, or create a new one, whatever actually allows you to view the contents of the contacts...
and then use a crude drag and drop to place all the contacts in a folder, and then point the user that is missing the contacts to drag and drop them into his/her contacts...or use file->import/export to grab those contacts.
Hope this helps,

I'm having the same trouble with a remote users OST. Short answer - No you can't open it. It is considered "orphaned" because it is tied to the old mailbox. If your brave, you can try They'll hack the OST and save all the data to a PST for $150. I have not used them and I am in no way affiliated with them.

Regards,
Scott
