Hi All

I'm trying to restore windows 2000 system state to new server with different hardware.

After i'm doing the restore and restart the new server the system just hang and not booting.

Microsoft KB shows that it's a well known problem to restore system state and active directory to new server with diffrent hardware.

Is there a way to do it without hardware problems?
What is the best thing to do in a case of disaster?

Thanks

When re-installing system state you should install on like hardware. The difference in you system drivers and storage drivers is what causing you new machine not to boot. I've seen it where you can re-install a backup to new hardware and the OS's plug and play replaces everything during boot up; and I've seen it not work at all.

Best thing to do for disaters is have (minimum) two Domain Controllers for AD, both set up a Global Catalogs. If one server dies, build a new one and add it as a DC for your domain.
