hi there, my story is as follows
NT4 server SP6a SQL2000 SP3, Veritas 8.6 on a different NT4 server

a NT4 server we support the hard drive went bang so I had to reinstall NT4 and SQL2000 SP3 on it again, SQL server is the same computer name, IP address etc. trouble is when I try to restore the master database it comes back failed saying master database needs to run in single user mode. I then stop the mssqlserver service and go to a command prompt and go to the sql binn folder and type sqlservr.exe –c -m which puts it in single user mode.

Back to veritas and when i try to do a restore it comes back saying it cant find the sql server. If i go to the backup option I can no longer see the SQL agent part of the SQL server until i go back to the SQL box and close the command prompt and restart the MSSQLSERVER service then I can drill down the SQL server seeing all the databases etc.

What im saying is how do i restore SQL2000 on a NT4 server using veritas 8.6? Veritas web site isnt helping and nowhere else is :(

thanks

Stop the MSSQL Service.

Go into the service properties, then in the startup parameters, put in -m, click on Start, then do your restore.

i couldnt see it for looking, :)

managed to get SQL restored, not exactly like Veritas say but i got it working in the end
