Good Morning,

I have a file that was backed when we were using R11.5 and the VLDB database. We are now using R12 on different hardware. I need to go back to an old FSD and recover a file. What do I need to set so I can access this file? I'm assuming a db recover or merge isn't going to help since the format of the db has changed. What will force Arcserve to scan the FSD and create a list of files I can choose from?

Thanks,
- Joel

you can do the following:

1. create a new FSD and point it to the directory where the FSD is located (it should be able to read the header.ctf and the 00000000xx.ctf files). As from version 12 creating FSD's can be done on the fly. If the directory where the FSD files reside is on a network share use the appropriate security settings.
2. Open the device manager and check if there is an FSD with a readable header.
3. Merge this FSD into the database using the Merge utility.
4. If this succeeds you should be able to restore your data using the Restore Manager.

This should work regardless of the database type you are using.

regards
