Hi All,

I did a full backup of a server...offline backup, shutdown applications etc..backed up C:, D: E:, F:, G:, H:. No errors encountered during backup.

Then built a new server with same type of hardware, same volumes etc. I installed base OS (w2k) and BAB v9 to the C: of the new server and attached a tape drive.

I was able to restore ALL drives except C:. When I try to restore the C: drive I get many erros indicating that the files are in use. The restore of C: drive is incomplete as a result.

My original aim was to backup a server and restore to duplicate hardware.

Any tips or advice to sucessfully restore the C: including the registry?

Cheers,

Ronnie

Is this a Windows 2000 system ?? As the C: drive is the system drive you can expect to have files open during restore operations. What kind of files are in use ? If they are all part of the System State maybe it is wise to restore the System Stateof the old machine to the new one.
Check the information on how to restore the System State on Member Servers as well as Domain Controllers (Active Directory)

regards

Yes. It is a Windows 2000 Advanced server. (Member Server)

The files that are in use when attemping the restore are like the Dell related utilities and some other files.
Should the Open File Agent help to handle files that are in use?

I tried to do a registry backup of my old system and restore it to the new server but got an error about windows file protection.
