I did an extensive search, expecting a simple fix that bcastner or linney had covered already, but no such luck.

The problem started just after I upgraded my system to a raid(1).
-installed 2 new SATA drives(2x200gig), full XP Pro (new/fresh) installation (raid1 worked like a charm right off the bat)
-after installation, I copied over my data files from the old boot drive, ran all the updates (SP2 included)
-after copying, I formatted the old boot drive to be the new backup disk (80gig)
-left untouched a storage drive (120gig), which is also where the swap file is located.

Ever since formatting the old boot drive, I've been unable to access the system restore preferences under My Computer>Properties When clicking on the Restore tab I receive the message "Run DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"....Send an error report...blah blah blah...

I've run sfc /scannow, did not fix the problem. Issue is still present when booting to safe mode.

I'm wary of doing a repair install, but I'd love to hear other potential solutions before the last-ditch, cleans-sweep fresh installation becomes a reality.

No other problems to speak of, your help is appreciated.

Some things to think about and consider.

The System Restore service does not work correctly in Windows XP

"Rundll32.exe entry point not found" error message when you open My Computer System Properties or the System Configuration Utility

How to troubleshoot the System Restore tool in Windows XP

System Restore Tab Disabled

'Show hidden files and system files' .
On every partition locate a folder called 'system volume information' and check all permissions for 'admin' and 'system' users

Also a star for linney.
That is one of the best SR threads I have seen.

wooglin,
Keep the Forum advised as to your progress on this issue.

It worries me.

Worked beautifully. My baby is now alive and healthy. Time to run a fresh set of backup disks.

I tried the suggestions leading up to that one, with no luck.

#1 seemed to easy to be true, no joy
#2 was just odd. I don't have any system volume info in my root directories.
#3 was rocky. Had to locate the SP2 install files, as well as the original install disk, but after the reboot System Restore service is working once again.

Stars for linney, thanks guys!
