Is it possible to restore meridian mail system data to a different meridian mail system. Both MM are on 61c's.

Thanks

I think it's possible to use the same site ID for the bigger systems. However, you might need to reload the install tape and re install the keycodes for the other system after the restore was done. Never tried it, but I don't see why you can't restore to a different system.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Do u think the following senario would work?

Site A is going away and but Site B has an older release software than Site A.

I'd plan to use Site A's software to upgrade Site B on the PBX and MMail. The PBX is a no brainer for me. Should I be able to use the MMail install tape from Site A and upgrade Site B? Retaining the database is a must.

Thanks for the help?

Site A Mail Software will only work with Site A PBX, and Site B Mail software with Site B PBX, due to the Mail keycode being tied into the PBX Site ID.

What you could do is use Site A Mail and PBX software at Site B, Restoring the Site B database once the system is up and running on site A software

That's the plan. I understand pbx software and mail software are tied to the pbx tid.

Can I upgrade site b's mmail and retain the database without restoring from a backup?

No, because the keycodes are written against the softare/hardware type associated with the current vmail system.

If you wanted to upgrade the softare on B you would need new keycodes. I guess it would be iffy if you were doing an in-release upgrade say from 13.x.x to 13.y.y, but I'm pretty sure you can't go from Rls 11 to 13 without new keycodes.

When it runs the FOX Security check is when it will crap out on you.

This should be tecnically possible providing the Licensing on the PBX and MMail at Site A is sufficent to support the requirements at Site B.

One option is to take the Security dongles Keycodes and software from site A and use it to upgrade site B. Once this is done you can use the MMail software and Keycode from site A to upgrade the Mail at Site B.

My prefered option would be to take CMDU's / IOP's from Site A and swap them with Site B, then fire in the original Site B database from Backup. Then replace the MMail Harddrive from Site B with the one from site A, and restore from the site B backup tapes. This method has the benefit of easily rolling back to original state by just replacing orignal hardware if theres a problem.

Thanks MossEng. I thought a "restore from backup" would blow away the mail keycode I'm needing to stick.
