I'm trying to run a restore but the 'List Media' is telling me that Index Cache will need to be restored from tape. There is plenty of free space on the IndexCache disk so it's not being pruned.
Does anyone know if i need to change any settings to be able to browse for the last 28 days without having to restore the cache from tape.

Thanks
Jon

Check your index retention

right click on the MediaAgent ---> Properties ----> IndexCache

Hmmm.... I beleive the default retention of the IndexCache is 30days! So somebody must have modified this value.
You will still have to load the tape to recover your Index if your IndexCache on disk but for the future you may consider changing the IndexCache retention just as Birky suggests.

This value has been set to 365 days, so shouldn't be an issue. Even so, still getting message about tapes required for Index Cache.

Sounds like there is a fault, could be that the IndexCache on disk is corrupted or not reachable. Have you checked the logs to troubleshoot this?

Have you reported this "issue" to you Commvault support provider.

What version are you running 5.9 6.1 7.0?

I have noticed that in 7.0 if you go to tools control panel, browse and recovery options, and have the box checked next to always use exact index it does ask for the tape everytime you try to do a restore. I just leave the box unchecked and check it when I need to for any restores from a year back.

Hope this helps.

I have a call open with Support, but not getting anywhere at the minute. The Exact Index option is not selected.

I also have this problem we are running 6.1, the index files aprear to be all there but when Browsing file backup its asking to restore the index from tape. The retention is set to 180 days but when doing a restore from say 4 days ago its requesting to restore theindex from tape.
